Large Early 19th Century French Door Knocker
Large Early 19th Century French Door Knocker
Description: An original quality large, antique cast iron door knocker. Dating from the early 1800’s this is a fine example of an antique front door knocker, something of this nature would’ve been produced in small quantities. Weighing 2.2 kilos the handle takes the form of a simple classical shape. I have retained the character and charm of this piece, with subtle layers of old paint in light pistachio greens with gilt highlights. The door knocker has been carefully removed from the door panel as single panel was already removed from the door. Sourced from the La Rochelle area of Western France.
Condition: Very good. The cast iron surface has been sensitively cleaned, revealing the layers of original old paint and patina. A nut has been created for the strike which matches the proportions of the existing nut.
